Job Summary

Working as a* Director of Retail Operations*, you are responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations for a Higher Education dining account. You will manage and lead a team of associates. You will be responsible for managing client relations, along with ensuring that the food offered to the customers is of superior quality. Additionally, you will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Retail Operations is directly responsible for the overall operations of Retail Dining in a Higher Education Dining Service account. This individual will be completely accountable for the Retail dining for the campus and the overall success of the Food Program. Directs and conducts safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs. Promotes the professional growth and development of the entire team, in addition the Director of Retail Operations will foster strong inter-departmental relations and integrate the Retail Operations department with the facility plan of operations.

Works within deadlines Interact professionally with client, other employees, customers and suppliers. Work effectively as a team leader on all assignments. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and organizing work efforts with other employees and organizations

Has a Passion for food. Ensures all products and purchases meet Bon Appetit sustainability guidelines. Has knowledge of and enforces the Client/Bon Appétit contractual agreement.

Ability to multi-task as well as stay on task and concentrate with constant interruptions

Strong communication skills both written and verbal. Attention to detail

Ability to communicate and build relationships on various levels to include management, client, students, associate an departmental level

Hires, trains and supervises the management team of Retail Operations

Conducts staff reviews, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions with the assistance of Human Resources

Builds teams, able to enhance cooperation and communications

Ensures that high quality food items are creatively well prepared and presented in a cost effective manner

Identifies, applies current industry trends, knowledge to enhance food programs

Represents the company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer, client and employee interactions

Knowledge of financial, budgetary, accounting practices

Works with Retail Executive Chef and Retail managers to make sure that labor goals are met

Ensures management team members report any injuries, accidents and/or food borne illnesses incident for customers and/or staff accurately and in a timely manner

  • * Has experience working in a union environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS, Hospitality or Culinary degree preferred

  • Three to five years of Higher Education Dining and foodservice operation experience

  • High volume production and catering experience is essential

  • Previous experience managing a budget

  • Desire to learn and grow with a top notch foodservice company
