The Retail General Manager for Bon Appetit Management Company is responsible for the overall success of multiple units including a C-Store, Grab-N-Go kiosks, and Café on this campus. This means adhering to the Client’s culture and guidelines, the Health Department’s regulations, and Bon Appétit’s standards and expectations of food quality, freshness and presentation. This position oversees the daily administrative and operational tasks, sanitation and safety. This position also motivates trains, develops and directs employees to accomplish the objectives of the operation to the satisfaction of the customers. Ultimately responsible for the oversight of these locations seven days a week.


  • Will manage operations in multiple states in the Southeast - both in Corporate (B&I) and Higher Education

  • Operate within the budget and identify new ways to improve the development of multiple unique and diverse clients

  • Carry out training and development of all staff to enable them to carry out their own duties and responsibilities

  • Interviewing, hiring, training and coaching employees

  • Participate in employee meetings, reviews and development

  • Ensure compliance with proper sanitation and cleaning standards

  • Performs related duties and special projects as assigned

  • Assists Catering Management team with special events as needed with staff, culinary and management presence

  • Works with Executive Chefs to plan seasonal tastings of new menu items, solicit feedback from guests

  • Works with Operations and Marketing teams to develop and implement sales programs on campus to solicit new business and track participation

  • Work with Corporate management team on new sales / client acquisitions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree is preferred, or equivalent professional experience

  • 10 years upscale food service experience, including 5 year at the supervisory level

  • Supervising, scheduling, training, management & coaching skills

  • Knowledge of work area operations, company and client policies and procedures

  • Operational knowledge of cash handling procedures and reconciliation of multiple cash banks and reports

  • Operational knowledge and oversee general maintenance of café food service equipment

  • Prepare and maintain volume trend analysis report on a daily basis

  • Responsible for planning, marketing and executing special events/promotions at client locations

  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines

  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively in an assertive manner

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team

  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision making skills

  • Ability to multi-task as well as stay on task and concentrate with constant interruptions

  • Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • ServSafe or Department of Health certification a plus

  • Union management experience
